ST. LOUIS (Jan. 12, 2021) – Chris Neaville, asset development director for The Doe Run Company (Doe Run), was inducted into the Missouri University of Science and Technology’s (Missouri S&T) Mines and Metallurgy Academy.
The Mines and Metallurgy Academy serves as an advisory board to Missouri S&T, guiding the direction of academic programs based on the skills students will need for careers in mining, engineering and geology. The Academy consists of more than 100 members who meet twice a year to discuss changes at the university, recognize outstanding graduating seniors, and honor distinguished faculty and alumni.
“Missouri S&T’s mining, geology and engineering programs are among the best in the country, graduating many Doe Run employees, and I’m honored to be part of shaping them for the future,” said Neaville. “I believe this partnership between university and industry provides such valuable perspective to ensure students are building the skills that employers like Doe Run are looking for in new hires.”
Originally from Herculaneum, Missouri, Neaville is an alumnus of Missouri S&T, where he earned a degree in geological engineering. His career includes nearly 35 years of experience in site remediation and repurposing industrial properties. Neaville joined Doe Run in 2011, where he leads remediation, manages property transactions and minerals acquisition, and advises on energy consumption and efficiency. During the past 10 years, he has managed approximately $100 million in remediation projects for Doe Run, including successfully transitioning the company’s former lead smelter site into a riverport and industrial park.
In addition to his participation in the Mines and Metallurgy Academy, Neaville serves as a board member for the Missouri Energy Initiative, a nonprofit association that promotes sustainable energy efforts and energy innovations throughout the state.
Doe Run has a long history of supporting Missouri S&T by providing technical equipment and upgrading laboratories to prepare future miners and metallurgists. Doe Run also provides scholarship opportunities for the university’s Summer Explosives Camp and frequently hosts interns from Missouri S&T.
