ST. LOUIS (June 14, 2013) – The Doe Run Company (Doe Run) was recently honored by the International Association of Business Professionals (IABC) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for the design and launch of their “Engaging Employees to DRIVE Doe Run” campaign. Doe Run’s successful approach to employee communication earned the company an IABC 2013 Gold Quill Award of Merit and a PRSA 2013 Silver Anvil Award of Excellence.

The DRIVE Doe Run campaign educated and engaged employees to support the company’s updated business strategy, mission and vision. A cross-functional team representing all divisions of the company created the DRIVE acronym, in which each letter defined an element of Doe Run’s business strategy. Doe Run executives led more than 30 face-to-face meetings to engage more than 1,550 employees in the roll out of the company’s business strategy. Pre- and post- campaign research showed an 11 percent increase in employees’ understanding of the strategy.

“Employees across the company helped to brainstorm the best approach to share the new business strategy with our workforce,” said Tammy Stankey, project leader and senior communications liaison at Doe Run. “Together, we created a strategy that was easy to remember and, more importantly, enabled each employee to connect how his or her role helps us achieve our goals. The positive feedback we received from employees following the launch validated the team’s thoughtful and collaborative approach.”

“We know successful companies have employees who understand and live the business strategy every day,” said Jerry Pyatt, president and CEO at Doe Run. “In order for Doe Run to deliver on our promises, it is vital that our employees not only understand our vision and direction, but also believe it. Together, we all drive Doe Run forward in fulfilling our social, economic, and environmental responsibilities, and growing as a vibrant company.”

IABC was founded in 1970 to provide an international network for business communicators. The annual Gold Quill awards recognize communicators who have demonstrated outstanding skill in their field.

PRSA provides professional development for more than 21,000 communications practitioners across the U.S. The national Silver Anvil Award honors one winner and up to three Awards of Excellence per category each year, and recognizes a select group of Silver Anvil Award finalists.

In addition to IABC’s and PRSA’s recognitions, Doe Run’s DRIVE campaign also received a 2012 Targeted Advertising and Marketing (TAM) award from the Business Marketing Association, St. Louis.

St. Louis-based ProWolfe Partners managed the creative design aspects of Doe Run’s campaign, including the development of the DRIVE logo, introductory video, employee newsletter and posters to help reinforce the DRIVE message. Additionally, Standing Partnership, another St. Louis-based firm, aided with the strategy and implementation of the campaign.
