ST. LOUIS (May 2, 2018) – The Doe Run Company (Doe Run) has achieved International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification for its Missouri mining facilities. Buick Mine and Mill, Casteel Mine, and Mine 29 established and certified environmental management systems to the ISO 14001 standard, completing a four-year effort to certify the six mine sites and four mill sites in Southeast Missouri’s Viburnum Trend.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems certification recognizes that Doe Run’s operations implemented environmental management programs for managing environmental impacts and improving environmental performance. ISO is the world’s largest developer of voluntary international standards.

The Resource Recycling facility in Boss, Missouri, is currently certified to the ISO 14001 standard as well. The Herculaneum Refinery, Resource Recycling, and Fabricated Products, Inc., (FPI) in Vancouver, Washington, have achieved ISO 9001:2008 for quality management systems.

“ISO 14001 certifications require rigorous evaluation of all of our procedures, and the environmental performance of our facilities,” said Mark Yingling, vice president – environmental, health and safety at Doe Run. “I’m proud of the collaboration by employees across our organization to continuously optimize our processes and meet environmental commitments necessary to achieve ISO certification.”

To achieve certification, a third-party ISO registrar conducted an extensive on-site assessment of the operations. The audit included interviews with each site’s leadership team, specific employees and external contractors to evaluate their adherence to ISO 14001 requirements and enhance each site’s environmental performance.

“Our ISO achievements demonstrate our team’s commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Samantha Anderson, environmental programs manager at Doe Run. “We see environmental management as a holistic and evolving process where we continue to audit ourselves and drive ongoing improvement.”

To maintain certification, Doe Run plans to complete audits and assessments through SRI Quality System Registrar. Each year, SRI audits each of the facilities to assess the health of the environmental management system. These ongoing audits validate that new processes are maintained to meet the site’s established targets, culminating in a full recertification to the ISO 14001 standard every three years.
