ST. LOUIS (February 18, 2022) – National Battery Day on February 18 gives us the opportunity to consider how essential batteries are in our everyday lives. From starting our cars to providing backup power for telecommunications, hospitals and data centers, our society runs thanks to the power of lead batteries.

In addition to being essential, lead batteries are also the most sustainable battery chemistry, recycled at a rate of 99% compared to just 15% of lithium-ion batteries. Doe Run manages this process right here at our Resource Recycling facility in Boss, Missouri, where we recycle some 8 million lead batteries each year to give them a second life.
