Call for Students: Doe Run Offering Summer Explosives Camp Scholarships

ST. LOUIS (March 25, 2019) – The Doe Run Company (Doe Run) is offering two full scholarships to the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) 2019 Summer Explosives Camp in June. Interested students must apply for the Explosives Camp and submit the Doe Run scholarship application by April 15. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 1.
Doe Run’s scholarships cover the full $1,450 camp cost, and are available to students who will be high school juniors or seniors in fall 2019 at the following districts: Farmington R-7, Potosi R-3, Kingston K-14, Iron County C-4, Bunker R-3, Valley R-6, Salem R-80, Southern Reynolds County R-2, Steelville R-3, Lesterville R-IV and in St. Francois County, West County- R-4, Central R-3 and North R-1. Interested students can obtain a scholarship application through their high school principal’s office.
Missouri S&T’s Explosives Camp is considered the first camp of its kind. High school juniors and seniors gain hands-on experience with the safe handling and shooting of explosives for a unique look at how explosives are used in different industries.
The camp includes demonstrations, field trips to operations – such as one of Doe Run’s mines, student projects, and ends with a bang with the shooting of a fireworks display. Qualified students who have passed a background check through the federal Safe Explosives Act are permitted to handle explosives.
The 2019 Explosives Camp will have two sessions – June 9-14 and June 16-21.

The Doe Run Company is offering two full scholarships ($1,450 value) to the June 2019 Missouri S&T Summer Explosives Camps to be held June 9 – 14 and June 16 – 21.

To apply, please fill out this scholarship application completely and return it to the contact listed below and complete the Summer Explosives Camp application online by April 15. The scholarship winners will be notified by May 1, 2019.

STEPS TO APPLY
- Complete the online camp application at http://futurestudents.mst.edu/summer-camps/explosives-camp/
- Fill out this form and mail along with:
- A maximum 500-word essay (same essay as entered online above) on “Why I am interested in a career focusing on the application of explosives.”
- A one-page letter of reference from a teacher or school counselor.
- A one-page resume showing any work experience, community/school involvement and any awards.
- Mail this completed scholarship application to:
