2026 American Idol Winner and Missouri Native Hannah Harper to Perform Saturday Evening

VIBURNUM, MO (September 14, 2026) – The Viburnum community hosts its 40th annual Old Miners’ Days, a festival that celebrates the rich mining history of southeast Missouri, Friday through Sunday, October 2–4.

The free event features entertainment for all ages, including activities in Doe Run’s Fall Rocks attraction, now part of Old Miners’ Days, tours of Doe Run’s Buick Mine, and a Saturday evening concert by 2026 American Idol winner and Missouri native Hannah Harper. Community activities get underway Friday at 5 p.m. with the annual Tiny Tot contest and Miss Viburnum Scholarship Pageant at the Elmer P. Beard Gymnasium in Viburnum.

Free underground tours of a working Doe Run mine are also available from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. to guests 12 and older. Free bus transportation is provided to shuttle guests the short distance from the Viburnum Shopping Center to the Buick Mine and back.

“Our free underground mine tours are a great way for people to see firsthand what mining is really like,” said Randy Hanning, general manager of Doe Run’s Southeast Missouri Operations Mining and Milling division. “Many visitors are surprised by how large and spacious the mines are, as well as the impressive size of the equipment operating underground. Once you see it for yourself, you really get a better sense of where the critical minerals we use every day come from.”

During the tour, visitors will travel through the shaft more than 1,000 feet underground and see Doe Run’s Buick Mine, including heavy mobile equipment, the maintenance shop, and rock pillars containing valuable ore.

Doe Run’s Fall Rocks attraction runs 11 a.m.– 3 p.m. in the old Dollar General building. It includes interactive activities, such as “gold” panning, a mineral trivia game, dress like a miner, and much more.

Saturday evening, 2026 American Idol winner Hannah Harper will perform in the Elmer P. Beard Gymnasium. Dalton Harper opens the 7 p.m. concert; doors open at 5 p.m.

Sunday activities include a community church service hosted by local churches at 11 a.m. in the Viburnum Center and a car show that runs from noon to 2 p.m.
